At this year's WrestleMania, Roman Reigns was betrayed by Paul Heyman (as was CM Punk) when the Wiseman allied himself with Seth Rollins. The next night on RAW, the OTC attempted to exact revenge but was taken out by Rollins and his new ally, Bron Breakker.
While the expectation was that Punk and Reigns would team up to battle Rollins and Breakker, the Second City Saint and Sami Zayn will instead take on the heels at next weekend's Saturday Night's Main Event.
Dave Meltzer weighed in on Reigns' status on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, explaining, "I guess no Roman Reigns—they’re probably saving that for later. Roman Reigns isn’t coming back for a while. Exactly when, I’m not sure, but it’s not going to be for a while."
"That’s the Saturday Night Main Event, and that’s another weekend where they’re going to be running; they have the Saturday Night’s Main Event, and then they’re going to follow with the NXT show," he continued. "The Saturday Night’s Main Event will be the same day as All In: Texas, and then the NXT show will be the next day. That next weekend is going to be a loaded, a really loaded weekend of shows."
While we'd bet on Reigns being back in time for SummerSlam, it appears he'll be sitting out most of the summer (similar to what happened last when when he lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes).
Talking of the American Nightmare, we have an update on his status as well. The last time we saw Rhodes was at the Show of Shows when John Cena ended his yearlong reign as champion thanks to an assist from rapper Travis Scott.
Some WWE fans had started booing Rhodes in the build to his match with the heel Cena, so putting him on the shelf for a short while isn't the worst move by the company. Plus, he's deserving of some time off following a jam-packed year that's seen him work countless televised and non-televised WWE events.
On the latest SportsKeeda's Backstage Pass Patreon, news was shared on Rhodes' return.
"So the last bit of news that we’re hearing is a little follow-up from Tuesday’s Q&A show. We are told Cody Rhodes’ impending return is indeed on the horizon, with the expectation from within that it will likely take place prior to the Money in the Bank PLE. Additionally, and to no one’s surprise here, TC, sources confirm Rhodes will resume his position as a top priority player, being a focal point of TV throughout the summer."
As always, stay tuned for updates as we have them.
