Yesterday, on the Countdown to WWE WrestleMania 41 Saturday pre-show, an angle happened where Bayley was attacked backstage by Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce would inform Lyra Valkyria that she had 24 hours to find a new tag team partner for her title match on WrestleMania Sunday.
Not only did Valkyria find a partner, but she did so in the returning Becky Lynch, and the two of them went on to win the match and become the new women's tag team champions!
How We Got Here:
To an extent, this goes back to NXT Halloween Havoc 2023, when Valkyria won the NXT Women's Championship from Lynch. They were established as having a bond before that and being friends, which is why she'd come to Valkyria's side tonight.
Lynch also feuded with Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez here and there in the past, dropping the tag team titles to them on April 10, 2023, as well as most recently losing the Women's World Championship to Morgan at King and Queen of the Ring 2024 and feuding with her until her exit from WWE.
Morgan and Rodriguez were announced as defending their titles against the winners of a tag team gauntlet, which Bayley and Lyra Valkyria won, after Valkyria had just retained her Women's Intercontinental Championship over Bayley—a title she won in a tournament that involved Rodriguez, to loop things back around.
Match Details:
This was a textbook tag team match, all things considered. Nothing all that different or interesting took place from any other match that you would see on a regular basis.
As the overall star of the show for this, who scored the pinfall here with a Manhandle Slam on Liv Morgan, getting a measure of revenge from their history.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
As a result of this, Lynch and Valkyria will be defending the Women's Tag Team Championship on this coming Tuesday's episode of NXT against Gigi Dolin and Tatum Paxley. That is interesting in the sense that Paxley and Valkyria have had a partnership before, so it'll be a case of friends going against each other.
While it might not happen right then and there, something will have to be done about Lyra Valkyria holding both the tag titles and the Women's Intercontinental Championship. There's no need in her being a double champion. Either she and Becky aren't meant to hold these tag titles long, or Lyra's time with the singles title is coming to an end. Most likely, it'll be settled by the time Backlash comes around
