The last time we saw Carmalla was when the former SmackDown Women's Champion Carmella faced Bianca Belair during a March 2023 edition of RAW. She initially took time off due to pregnancy but remains sidelined thanks to a nasty-sounding non-wrestling injury.
Last year, Carmella confirmed that she was dealing with two herniated discs in her back, as well as issues in her foot which are directly related to that problem. It's a condition commonly known as "Drop Foot" which can occur while giving birth.
Carmella intends to break her silence on the Barely Famous podcast this Friday but, in a newly released excerpt, sheds light on her release in a way that doesn't exactly paint WWE in a particularly positive light.
"It just feels like a sh***y way to end a twelve-year career with the company," she says in the video below. "Like, this is how it ended. I got a call saying that my contract was up in ten days...ghosted. Ghosted, completely ghosted."
"What if this is the end of my career? Like, what am I doing with my life? What do I have to offer? Why wasn’t I given an opportunity somewhere else. I feel like I’m being punished because I had a baby," the former WWE Superstar added.
When it was put to Carmella that WWE could still bring her back, she appeared to close the door on ever returning. "Why would you want to be somewhere that doesn’t want you? I wish more for women in general and moms and especially athletes. I feel like you shouldn’t have to choose one. Why can’t you have both?"
What's interesting about this is that Carmella's husband, Corey Graves, still works for WWE. He's expressed unhappiness with being dropped from the RAW and SmackDown commentary teams (instead, he's been sent back to NXT(, so could he be next to leave?
It wouldn't be overly surprising at this stage and Carmella is bound to have plenty to say about the end of her WWE career when the full podcast is released tomorrow.
