CM Punk Talks John Cena's Retirement And Reveals Who He Still Wants To Wrestle In WWE

CM Punk got to live his dream at WrestleMania last month when he main evented the Show of Shows in a Triple Threat match pitting him against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.

While Paul Heyman's betrayal meant he Rollins walked away with the win, it was a huge moment for the Best in the World, and Punk now looks set to continue his feud with The Visionary and rising star Bron Breakker.

Talking to Netflix, Punk praised the current WWE roster and revealed who he still hopes to step into the ring with.

"The women are carrying the show a lot of times," he said. "I think Rhea Ripley is a Superstar. Liv Morgan had an MVP year [in 2024]. I like watching Gunther compete. I hate Dominik Mysterio, that’s neither here nor there."

"Guys I want to work with — Jacob Fatu. Got a little taste at WarGames, but one-on-one stuff is my bread and butter, [there’s] more pressure that way," Punk continued. "Finn Bálor is fantastic. I selfishly want to lock back up with Rey Mysterio, teach him a lesson for having such a brat kid."

At Elimination Chamber, the Best in the World and John Cena squared off in the closing stages of the Chamber match. Rollins cost Punk the win, and it left fans eager for a full-blown one-on-one match with Punk and Cena (reigniting their storied rivalry from the 2010s).

"I think me and him are on the same road," Punk told the site. "We’re [both] closer to the end of our career than we are to the start of it. He’s another guy who doesn’t like talking about himself too much. John Cena has never asked for anyone to give him any kind of credit, he always put the company before himself, always put others before himself — I think it’s time we give back, say thanks, pat him on the back."

"I feel like it’s my duty to talk about him. Selfishly, I’d love to be a part of [Cena’s farewell tour] in any which way he possibly sees fit," he added. "He wants to tag with me, awesome. He wants to lock back up with me, fantastic. But as a fan, I’m just excited to be here to witness it all."

WWE has the opportunity to give us another "Summer of Punk" if he and Cena feud for the Undisputed WWE Championship, but all signs point to Punk and Roman Reigns battling Rollins and Breakker in the months ahead instead.

As always, stay tuned for updates on CM Punk's WWE future as we have them.
