Cody Rhodes Defeats Christopher Daniels To Become The New RING OF HONOR World Champion
As many expected he would, Cody Rhodes has won the ROH Championship at the Best in the World pay-per-view, bringing the first world title home to the Rhodes family in 30 years. More details after the jump...
Cody Rhodes is the new Ring of Honor World Champion.
The American Nightmare defeated “Almighty” Christopher Daniels in the main event of Friday night’s Best in the World pay-per-view after an incredible match, and brought a major world title back to his illustrious family after almost 31 years. Cody's legendary late father, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, had his final reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion in 1986, and his brother Dustin "Goldust" Runnels has never held the WWE Championship.
Earlier today, we heard that Rhodes has "no incentive" to return to The WWE, and an ROH title run would obviously further delay any potential reconciliation. Plus, Cody has a shot more gold next month when he challenges Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
As much as we'd all love to see Rhodes back on WWE television some day, this is fantastic news for the 31-year-old star. Congratulations Cody.
