Should John Cena deal with Nexus during his retirement tour?
The former WWE Undisputed Champion has just six dates left. One of those dates is occupied as Cena will face Brock Lesnar at the upcoming WrestlePalooza PLE, but once the dust settles for that match, it’s unknown what the future lies for Mr. Cena.
John has been on a tour facing familiar foes since his full time return in April. First it was Randy Orton, CM Punk, and even R-Truth, but according to a former WWE star, it should also be The Nexus.
While speaking on "The F Y'all Podcast," David Ortunga talked about the infamous Nexus storyline and like many fans and critics, he wasn’t too pleased about the end results of their 2010 Summerslam match.
"We were the hottest thing running, and they knew that, and then it was so bad. The SummerSlam thing, that was a disaster. We should have won that. That completely cut the legs out from under us. Everybody agreed, but one person - John Cena."
Now it’s been talked about time and time again what happened with the match finish. Reportedly, Nexus was originally supposed to go over in that main event, though it’s been rumored that John Cena got the match finished changed.
That finish severely damaged the Nexus story and though it would continue moving forward with John Cena being forced to join Nexus after losing to Wade Barrett, the story just didn’t have as much heat as it did going into Summerslam 2010.
But that was an important part of Cena’s past and Ortunga feels it would be a shame if Nexus didn’t come back and whoop Cena’s ass.
"I think it's a travesty if he retires without the Nexus coming back to whoop his ass. I think that's what should happen," Otunga said (H/T to WrestlingNews.co). "All of a sudden, who's coming through the crowd? Who pops up on the ring? Boom, it's payback. Here's your receipt. Our receipt.
It’s surely an interesting thought, though most of the original Nexus members are no longer active wrestlers. Heck, Wade Barrett - who’s the only Nexus member still in the company - is retired. Given that Cena has five dates left, it’s doubtful that anything like that would happen, but crazier things have taken place in wrestling. Though it would strangely be fun to see Nexus get their revenge because of that Summerslam main event.
