Even Jerry Lawler Hated The End To The Women's Ladder Match At WWE MONEY IN THE BANK
If even the "Puppies" obsessed Jerry Lawler thinks you're doing something wrong with women's wrestling, you know you're in trouble! He's shared his thoughts on that ladder match and they're not positive.
At the Money in the Bank PPV last Sunday, WWE made history with the first ladder match featuring female competitors with the MITB briefcase on the line. Going into that bout, there was a lot of excitement surrounding who would walk away victorious and the up and coming Carmella taking the win was no bad thing; until male wrestler, James Elsworth, won it on her behalf!
The fact a man technically won the first all-women MITB ladder match has not sat well with fans and now even Jerry Lawler (who doesn't seem to have the most modern views on women, let's just say) has voiced his displeasure with the decision to have things play out this way in what should have been a historic moment for female competitors.
"That’s one thing that disturbed me, and hopefully they will fix that in some kind of way. That’s what WWE has been about. We don’t even call them Divas anymore; it’s the women’s division because it’s about empowering women. So much of the emphasis that the WWE has put on the women’s division has done that. That’s why I was disappointed to see, in the first ever, historic Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, that they had to have a man climb the ladder and retrieve the Money in the Bank briefcase. I’m one of [the people who are upset about the finish]."
WWE is now planning on hosting a rematch for the briefcase with Elsworth banned from ringside on next week's SmackDown Live. Whether or not Carmella will once again emerge victorious is hard to say and there's a very good chance the company will choose to move in a different direction following the response from viewers. What do you guys think of these comments?
