Mariah May signed with AEW in November 2023 and, despite having already made a name for herself in Stardom, many feel that she's one of the first "homegrown" talents to have emerged from Tony Khan's company.
She certainly put herself on the map in the company, and May received widespread acclaim for her memorable feud with Toni Storm in 2024. She later won the AEW Women's Championship at All In before Storm managed to recapture the title.
Their feud concluded at the AEW Revolution PPV in March, and May hasn't been seen since. Since then, it's been widely reported that she's planning to make the jump to WWE, becoming the latest wrestler to use Tony Khan's company as a stepping stone to bigger and brighter things.
May's name was taken off the AEW roster page a couple of days ago, and Fightful Select has shared an update on her in-ring future.
According to the site, May signed a two-year deal with AEW, and she's now a free agent after they failed to come to terms on a new agreement. It seems Khan knew the writing was on the wall; part of the reason she's been sidelined for so long is that there have been no creative plans for her. That suggests May made her intentions to leave known several months ago.
May is thought to have also signed with Paradigm, the talent agency now representing many WWE Superstars. Her WWE debut is thought to be inevitable now, with many speculating that she could debut at the Evolution 2 PLE next month.
We'll have to wait and see, but the former AEW Women's Champion feels like a perfect fit for WWE and is surely someone Triple H is eager to bring into the fold. The company's women's division is going from strength to strength - even if the booking doesn't always reflect that - and May would be an exciting addition to the main roster.
AEW has a major problem with wrestlers using the company to essentially "audition" for WWE. Some wrestlers remain fiercely loyal to Khan; MJF, for example, had the opportunity to sign with WWE, stayed with AEW, and has since found himself languishing in the midcard.
