Shyna Baszler finally spills the beans on her WWE release.
Perhaps the biggest surprise in the recent string of releases was the former NXT Women’s Champion. Granted, before Baszler's release in May, she was barely on television. However, Baszler was one of Triple H’s favorites during the Black & Gold era of NXT. She once held the NXT Women’s title for 416 days; Baszler seemed primed as a main event star and she seemed to be on her way of being the next big thing when she got a huge victory over Bayley and Becky Lynch at Survivor Series 2019.
But once Baszler lost to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36, it was all down hill for the former UFC star. However, when Triple H took over creative duties, many assumed that he would finally give Shayna Baszler the push that she deserved. He didn’t. But there was some hope that Triple H had plans for Baszler when he re-signed her in 2024.
Unfortunately, nothing of note came to fruition. Baszler admitted during her recent interview with https://www.youtube.com/embed/m_6FlzO4-Gs?si=CSTm9MN8jQKAAW2l&start=8439" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>">Ariel Helwani that she wasn't surprised by her release earlier this year.
“I had like three more years.,. I was released. I had, not too long ago, signed an extension. I wish it would have ran out, but I was released… It’s never a good feeling, but it was not unexpected.”
Baszler stated that she tried her hardest to pitch stories and ideas, but creative just wasn’t interested.
“We were trying to pitch stories and ideas and doing our own stuff on social media and that sort of thing. Nothing was hitting with creative… It’s a bummer in that moment, but I kind of knew where we were at.”
When asked about possibly signing with AEW, Shayna said that she’s open to it.
“I said almost exactly this statement when people were talking about my UFC to WWE transition: I don’t care as much of the letters behind it, I just want to practice my craft. And if I can do that alongside my friends, that’s always a great place to be. So, I’m not going to say a hard no to any of that.”
Could we see Shayna Baszler in AEW? The former WWE star did say that she has friends in the promotion, so it wouldn't be surprising if she ends up going there. Baszler is talented and she'll definitely help boost the division.
