It's been confirmed today that Matty Anoa'i has passed away at the age of 47. Best known to WWE fans as Rosey, he debuted in 2002 as part of 3-Minute Warning, a tag team consisting of him and his real-life cousin Edward "Eki" Fatu, a.k.a. Umaga. He died back in 2009.
In late 2003, he was paired up with The Hurricane to become a "super hero in training," a gimmick which quickly took off when he became a full-fledged superhero in 2004. That gimmick lasted until 2006 and after leaving WWE, he worked in Japan and on the Indies. Anoa'i also ran a wrestling promotion called Epic Championship Wrestling in Florida with his father, Sika, before his death.
Rosey is part of the legendary Anoa'i wrestling dynasty, which includes The Rock, The Usos, WWE Hall of Famers The Wild Samoans, WWE Hall of Famer Yokozuna, and more. He’s also the brother of current WWE Superstar Roman Reigns, so it goes without saying that our thoughts go out to him and the rest of the family today. Here's a tribute to Rosey from his former partner.
