Former WWE/WCW Writer Vince Russo Has Spoken To Vince McMahon About A Potential WWE Return, Bro
In news that's sure to be met with numerous anguished responses of "Dear God, please, NOOOOO!", Vince Russo has revealed that he has spoken to Vince McMahon about a potential return to WWE's writing staff...
Even if you've only been a wrestling fan a short time, chances are you'll have heard the name Vince Russo.
Back in WWE's Attitude Era, Russo was responsible for some of the company's more controversial/OTT storylines, and, though many will be loath to admit it, for the most part he was very successful. However, when he eventually jumped ship to WCW his ideas seemed to run dry, and to this day he's generally credited as the man who ultimately ran the promotion into the ground (David Arquette as World Champion? Thank Russo) with his ridiculous angles - and you could easily say the same about his stint in TNA.
Is there any chance in hell Vince McMahon would even consider bringing someone so widely regarded as a cancer on the business back into the fold? Well, Russo himself has suggested that it might be a possibility while being interviewed by Frightful.com:
“I’ve reached out to Vince McMahon in the past week. He got back to me. “I am still a wrestling fan at heart, going back to when I was 10, 11 years old. I hate today’s product. To me, it’s not professional wrestling. I don’t want to be the guy critiquing the problem without saying ‘Here’s my olive branch, I think I can help you as the numbers go down every week.’ I didn’t use the word help. You don’t tell Vince McMahon he needs help. I said ‘if you want me to contribute, I’d love to once again contribute.’
” … Vince never seems receptive. His response is always a couple of words. He’s not that guy. He’s the same guy that told me I could get a nanny [to raise] your kids.”
We left the 745 "bros" out of the transcript, but you can check out the video below if you really want to hear 'em.
Thankfully, it doesn't sound like Vinny Mac was very receptive to his offer - but if ratings continue to decline. you really never know what extreme measures will be taken to get things back on track. If Russo does return, we can probably expect Braun Strowman to be repackaged as the illegitimate son of The Big Show and Alexa Bliss.
