We're used to the RAW and SmackDown Live shows taped in the UK not really achieving much but that changed this week when AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal to become WWE Champion. That was despite weeks of the company building up a clash between the latter and Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series but it will now be The Phenomenal One who clashes with The Beast at the PPV.
Apparently, it was Vince McMahon's decision to put the title on Styles and he decided a week ago that he would have John Cena take Styles spot on the elimination match as opposed to still being the special referee in Lesnar's match (which was initially expected to set up a match between Cena and Mahal somewhere down the line). So, why exactly was Mahal removed from this match?
We don't know right now but speculation points to there being a lack of interest in Mahal vs. Lesnar and the experiment to increase subscriber numbers in India having been a resounding failure.
