The Spear has been used by many wrestlers over the years, but in WWE, it's now primarily the finisher for Roman Reigns and Bron Breakker (Jey Uso also occasionally pulls it out of his arsenal).
WWE Hall of Famer and WCW icon Goldberg has used the Spear to great effect throughout his professional wrestling career. Ahead of his match with World Heavyweight Champion Gunther at Saturday Night's Main Event, he was asked about The Undertaker's recent suggestion that only Breakker should now be using the move in WWE.
"1,000%," Godlberg agreed. "He’s the only human being in the WWE that should be doing that. I know I’m gonna catch a lot of hell from that, but I don’t care, because that’s the truth. I mean, it is what it is."
"Let’s just talk about the reason why everybody started doing the spear in the WWE," he continued. "I mean, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, right? I mean, let’s be perfectly honest, they did it to make mine look bad, or, you know, to downplay mine."
Asked to rank several famous Spears used by various WWE Superstars, he placed himself at #1, Breakker at #2, Edge at #3, Rhino's Gore at #4, and Reigns' effort at #5. Discuss!
In the same interview, Goldberg also opened up on preparing for his final match at 58 and confirmed that Paul "Triple H" Levesque was the one who called him about making a WWE return he never expected would happen.
"I get a phone call from New York, and it’s an unknown number, and I didn’t pick up," he revealed, saying he was on his tractor at the time. "And then I picked up the second time, and lo and behold, it was Mr. Levesque."
Reflecting on his last match against Roman Reigns (which he agreed to, despite recovering from COVID), Goldberg talked more about never getting the retirement match Vince McMahon promised.
"I thought that part of the payback for that, obviously, hey, we’re going to give them a retirement match. Well, that never transpired," he shared. "I’m appreciative of the opportunity, and also appreciative that they gave me more than three weeks to prepare."
