Speculation continues to run rampant about Kevin Owens' WWE future. He's doing some of the best work of his career feuding with Cody Rhodes and, as fans continue getting behind him, the hope is that he might finally become Undisputed WWE Champion.
However, rumours persist that Owens plans to leave WWE, perhaps to join AEW where he can reunite with longtime friends The Young Bucks.
During a recent podcast appearance, Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp said, "I haven’t been outright told that he signed a new contract, but it’s safe to assume at this point."
This seems to suggest that the Prizefighter is sticking around and the fact he's been booked in such a big storyline might have helped matters. Whether WWE will pull the trigger on KO taking the American Nightmare's title remains to be seen as some feel it will be a heel Randy Orton who eventually dethrones Rhodes.
We'd imagine keeping Owens around is a priority for Triple H and there's not much for the former Universal Champion to achieve in AEW, especially with the product on the decline.
A few years ago, the prospect of him teaming with the Young Bucks or exchanging verbal barbs with MJF would have been incredibly exciting. The product has cooled off, though, and WWE is on a hot streak without Vince McMahon calling the shots.
Owens was recently asked if he'll still be under contract for WWE's big Road to WrestleMania tour next year and commented briefly on where things stand with his contract.
"I don’t think anything is sorted for those shows yet," he started. "Obviously knowing WWE and knowing how important this is being made for everyone here, this is clearly a big deal to them. Hitting all these European towns and cities back-to-back for three weeks in a row with TV there and big live events. It is a big deal."
"I just want to be happy. But I can’t tell you what that means exactly, because I don’t actually know it either. I just want to feel fulfilled," Owens added. "There is a lot that goes into that. It is more intricate than we have time to get into."
Keep checking back here for updates as we have them.
