Brock Lesnar's WWE future remains one of the biggest talking points heading into SummerSlam this weekend, but according to Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque, the decision over whether The Beast continues competing rests entirely with the former WWE Champion.
Appearing on ESPN's First Take ahead of the two-night PLE, Levesque made it clear that WWE isn't looking to decide when Lesnar's career ends—rumours swirl that he'll retire after his match with Oba Femi after seeming to do so at WrestleMania—insisting only the 49-year-old superstar knows when the time is right to step away from the ring.
"It's really in his court as to what he wants to do," Levesque explained. "For Brock, there's always gas left in the tank. I believe he is one of those generational athletes. It's just a matter of, is this the right time for him?"
Instead of speculating about Lesnar's next move, Levesque suggested that the former UFC Heavyweight Champion will make the call himself when the moment arrives. "It all comes down to what does he see next for Brock? The great ones know when to call it a day. Brock will know, but he'll tell us in real-time, live in Minnesota at SummerSlam."
While Lesnar's future is uncertain beyond this weekend, Levesque also made it clear that WWE would be more than willing to continue working with him if there is enough interest from both the Superstar and the WWE Universe.
"If there's a desire to see it, if the fans want to see it, if there's a way to get it done, WWE will get it done. That's what we do," he promised.
Those comments only serve to make Lesnar's SummerSlam clash with Oba Femi all the more intriguing. After all, it's a rivalry that has quickly become one of WWE's most compelling feuds.
The two powerhouses will collide inside Hell in a Cell at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis after splitting their previous encounters. Femi defeated Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 before the former UFC star evened the score at Clash in Italy, setting the stage for a decisive third meeting.
Femi's determination to settle the rivalry was underlined when he turned down the World Championship opportunity he earned by winning the King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions, choosing instead to pursue one final match with Lesnar.
Stay tuned for updates on all things SummerSlam this weekend.
