Preview & Predictions for WWE Saturday Night's Main Event XLII:
On tap for today's event, obviously, the biggest focal point is John Cena's retirement. There had been some speculation that this would open the show, which is not true, thankfully. That would have been a nightmare trying to convince fans to keep watching for the NXT talent that haven't been properly built up for the casual audience. I could tell you how great Oba Femi, Sol Ruca, Je'Von Evans, and Leon Slater are, but the lapsed fan who doesn't watch NXT has no idea.
I would anticipate Sol Ruca probably beats Bayley, but since Zaria is going to be accompanying her, there is a solid chance that leads to some kind of issue between them. As a general sense, this event could be all three NXT losses with the "they put up a good effort" mentality, which I think would be a mistake, but WWE is far from immune to complete messes.
Je'Von Evans and Leon Slater will have a great match with AJ Styles and Dragon Lee, but the champs are retaining the titles. I can't imagine those belts are changing hands. I'd be down for it, but it's just not a good prediction to make.
Oba Femi shouldn't lose to Cody Rhodes if they want to make a big statement about how he's someone to look out for in the future, but I have my doubts WWE will go in that direction, or that they'll only have Femi win because of some outside interference from Drew McIntyre to push that story along, which will mean Femi doesn't get as much of a boost. I'd still rather that happen than for Femi to lose, though.
And with Cena against Gunther, I feel like it has to be either The Ring General winning by making Cena tap out, or the story will be how Cena "never gives up" and how he can overcome the odds one last time to hit an Attitude Adjustment and win. I'm torn, 50/50, but if I absolutely had to pick, I'd say Cena loses.
