Kevin Owens has been in the WWE for ten years.
The former WWE Universal Champion has seen some ups and downs throughout his career, but Owens’ career is filled with plenty of positives. As of late, the 40-year-old has been going through a resurgence as he’s currently battling Cody Rhodes for the prestigious Undisputed WWE Championship.
Owens failed to beat “The American Nightmare” at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but the Smackdown star still made sure to leave with the belt as he injured Cody and took the title with him. Now Kevin is posing as the current Undisputed WWE Champion. Before Saturday Night’s Main Event took place, the WWE star reflected on his career with Collider and revealed that he was told that he may never see the light of day on RAW or Smackdown:
"When I first signed with WWE, I was basically told I'd probably stay in 'NXT' and never really see the light of day on 'Raw' or 'SmackDown,'" Owens said. "And then, about eight, nine months later, I was on 'Raw' with John Cena. From that point on, I've had WrestleManias, I've had titles, and I've been in the ring with my favorite wrestler of all time, Steve Austin. I've been able to take care of my family in a way I never fathomed."
Owens expressed his love to be a world champion again. In a surprising tidbit, the former Universal Champion also wants to have a match with Rey Mysterio:
"I'd love to be world champion again," Owens said. "I'd love to Main Event WrestleMania night two, since I've done night one already. I'd love to have a match with Rey Mysterio . But if my career ends tomorrow, I'd still be happy with what I've done."
A Mysterio/Owens feud would be great! It’s always possible that WWE surprises us by having Owens officially beat Cody for the belt, but since that’s unlikely to happen then transitioning to fighting the Hall of Famer would be a nice consolation prize. Of course, there’s still Randy Orton wanting in the wings for Owens, so he’ll likely be busy for a good period of time before him and Mysterio can have a genuine feud.
Smackdown this week should be very interesting since Owens will be walking in as the “new” Undisputed WWE Champion. It should be a fun couple of weeks watching Owens pretending to be the real champ.
