Starting off this week's episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown was an immediate breaking news story of Jey Uso having been attacked moments prior (in kayfabe, naturally).
In typical WWE fashion, for a company that makes as much money as they do and has cameras around everyone at all times, nobody had seen the attack go down, so we've got another mystery attacker story going on, with suspicions on several people.
Two of those were The Vision's Logan Paul and Austin Theory, who approached SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis alongside Paul Heyman in a backstage segment so Heyman could suggest inserting Paul into the Elimination Chamber to fill the void of Uso.
Aldis pondered the idea, while calling out how they could have been the attackers, and would later put Paul in a qualifier match against Jacob Fatu, who himself pitched to Aldis that he should replace Uso—something Sami Zayn was quick to call out as suspicious behavior as well.
Ultimately, in the main event of the night, Logan Paul would go on to be successful and win the spot over Jacob Fatu, but not without more controversy.
The mystery attacker "masked man" that has been costing The Vision various matches over the past however many weeks showed up once again to try to interfere and cause Paul to lose, only to fail in his mission. Instead, he was actually unmasked, revealed to be some unknown guy who the commentary team was confused about. He was quickly escorted out of the ringside area, and the commotion was enough to cause the referee to be too distracted to notice Drew McIntyre coming out to hit Fatu in the head with the Undisputed WWE Championship title belt.
That strike was the advantage Paul needed, and he capitalized on that to score the pinfall to win the spot at Elimination Chamber.
With that in mind, here is the updated lineup for WWE Elimination Chamber, going down tomorrow:
- Women's Intercontinental Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs AJ Lee
- World Heavyweight Championship Match: CM Punk (c) vs Finn Balor
- Women's Elimination Chamber Match: Rhea Ripley vs Tiffany Stratton vs Alexa Bliss vs Asuka vs Kiana James vs Raquel Rodriguez
- Men's Elimination Chamber Match: LA Knight vs Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes vs Je'Von Evans vs Trick Williams vs Logan Paul
