There were a few notable highlights on this week's episode of WWE SmackDown (March 14, 2025 edition in Barcelona, Spain), including the two mysterious vignettes, as well as Axiom making his SmackDown debut in a match against the world heavyweight champion Gunther, but the main event of the night was arguably the most important part of the show as we have new tag team champions!
On today's episode, The Street Profits defeated #DIY to win the WWE Tag Team Championship titles, which is one of the many twists and turns that the title scene in WWE has changed on the Road to WrestleMania 41, following Iyo Sky's Women's World Championship win over Rhea Ripley, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez winning the Women's Tag Team Championship titles from Bianca Belair and Naomi, and most recently (prior to today), Stephanie Vaquer's NXT Women's Championship win over Giulia from Roadblock this past Tuesday.
Leading up to this, the SmackDown tag team division has been in chaos.
Several months ago, Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford were supposed to get a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship titles, only to be attacked backstage. #DIY replaced them, went on to defeat The Motor City Machine Guns for the belts, and turn heel.
Eventually, after some shenanigans that brought Pretty Deadly and Los Garza into the mix, it was revealed that Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa were not just the top suspects of the attack, but they were truly the ones responsible for putting The Street Profits out of commission and stealing their title opportunity.
As a result of that, The Street Profits interfered in the #DIY vs. MCMG match at the Royal Rumble premium live event, and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis wanted to sort out all the mess, so he booked The Street Profits in this tag title match and set up a Triple Threat No. 1 contenders' match last week (wherein Kit Wilson and Elton Prince defeated Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin and Angel & Berto).
For the end of this match, a miscalculation on the champions' parts led to Gargano superkicking Ciampa and taking a Frog Splash from Ford to get pinned, as shown here:
WWE has yet to announce when Pretty Deadly will get their title shot, which will now obviously be against The Street Profits.
This is now the third main roster tag team title reign for The Street Profits, after winning the Raw tag team titles and being awarded the SmackDown belts in a WWE Draft trade in 2020, as well as previously holding the NXT Tag Team Championship titles.
