Another huge tournament is around the corner.
For the past ten years, PROGRESS has been doing their annual Super Strong Style 16 tournament that’s composed of four rounds. It’s a single elimination tournament that’s set to determine who will challenge the PROGRESS World Champion. The history of the tournament stems from the high quality of matches that come from it.
The tournament started in 2015 and Will Ospreay won the inaugural competition. Since Ospreay, Tommy End (Malakai Black), Zack Sabre Jr, and Travis Banks (NXT UK) are the other notable names that have won the yearly tournament. This year’s Super Strong Style 16 promises to be another exciting event and the promotion has confirmed their first three entrants.
The first one is Masa Kitamiya, a Pro Wrestling Noah mainstay. The 36-year-old has been wrestling for nearly 15 years and has yet to win a singles title, but Kitamiya is an elite tag team specialist who has won the GHC Tag Team Championships seven times.
The second entrant is Jack Morris. You may recognize the name because of his brief run as ½ of GHC Tag Team Champions with WWE star Omos. However, the 31-year-old is more than just a tag team wrestler. Morris is a pro who’s been working the international markets for nearly a decade; with the GHC National Championship, Reckless Intent Heavyweight Championship, and SWA X Championship under his belt.
The third entrant is ZOZAYA, a six-year veteran who has worked in RevPro, White Wolf Wrestling, PROGRESS, and Pro Wrestling Noah. An exciting high flyer who has yet to win a world title, ZOZAYA’s slowly rising through the ranks thanks winning belts like the Triple W Absolute Championship.
Throughout the remaining days, PROGRESS will continue to announce all 16 competitors in the 2025 Super Strong Style 16 tournament. Stay tuned to find out who will get a chance to fight in one of the most prestigious tournaments in professional wrestling. The tournament is scheduled to start on Sunday May 4th at the Electric Ballroom, Camden in London.
