Remember Ron Killings?

The WWE star known as R-Truth was part of the annual releases back in June and fans were not happy about this. In fact, fans caused so much of an uproar that they were chanting for Truth’s name each and every week following his release.

Shockingly, Truth made his return at Saturday Night’s Main Event by interfering in a tag team match against his final opponent before his departure, John Cena. The whole story leading into his match against the 17-time world champion was that R-Truth was fighting to bring out the real John Cena, but Truth’s mission changed when he came back.

He promised to destroy John Cena. And he changed his alter ego back to Ron Killings. The 53-year-old was featured prominently for a couple of weeks then he seemingly vanished. Killings returned on the night John Cena turned back into a babyface. The two men had a backstage segment and it was confirmed that Killings was going to go back to his old persona, R-Truth.

From the offset, it seemed as if WWE never had long term plans for Killings in the first place. But apparently, the character went where it was supposed to go, according to Truth. The former United States Champion spoke about where he hoped the Killings character would go on WWE television on SHAK Wrestling (Transcript courtesy of Figutful).

“Where it went to. It went where it was supposed to go to,” R-Truth said. “The Ron Killings (character) was created, he created R-Truth. You see what I’m saying? So it’s like those hundreds of millions of fans that spoke, that uproar, that they wanted R-Truth back.

“Ron Killings was the rebellion, the one that spoke up for R-Truth. Ron has been Ron the Truth Killings, Ron Killings has been around for years. People grew up, like, generations. They never came together and locked it, like, they did that for R-Truth. You feel me?

Basically, the character was never a long term gimmick. Just a name who supposed to take down evil John Cena. But since John turned face then there was no purpose for Ron Killings.

“So I wanted Ron Killings to go where he was supposed to go. He made the statement. He had the eyes on him and just like with storylines, when John Cena came back, R-Truth came back. Ron Killings just led the cavalry. That’s all that was.”
