WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has had his fair share of differences with WWE but remains supportive of his daughter, Charlotte Flair. In a new interview, he talked more about their relationship and the recent rumblings about her returning to the company imminently.
When the subject of John Cena breaking his 16-time WWE Championship record came up, Flair largely dismissed the possibility. "John Cena doesn’t want to break a record," the Nature Boy said. "He doesn’t give a sh*t about that. He’s in a different world now. Wrestling will always be his passion but he doesn’t care [about breaking the record]."
Instead, he believes Charlotte breaking the record - she's currently on fourteen - would be a much bigger deal for WWE. "I still think the biggest thing in the business when it happens, is her breaking the title record," he started. "I just think it’s a woman’s world now and she’s the best woman wrestler alive and I think this time off, as unfortunate as it was because of the severity of the injury, I think she’s been able to sit back and realize just how damn good she is."
"I guarantee you when she walks back in the door of whatever arena...it’s gonna be a gamechanger guys," Flair continued. "I’ll bet $10,000 that the best match she wrestles if it’s a good opponent, will get the highest woman’s rating in a long time in a singles match."
While appearing alongside Charlotte in WWE, Flair frequently crossed paths with Sasha Banks. She left WWE a few years ago and now goes by Mercedes Mone in AEW (a company where many fans feel her potential is being wasted).
Reflecting on his daughter's best rivalries, Flair said, "I thought Sasha and Ashley had the best chemistry of all time. I just think the matches that Rhea and Ashley had might have been as good."
"I look at Sasha [and] she has that mindset that she can do whatever she wants to do because she’s that good. I think that ultimately she’ll end up back in the WWE," he added. "If you look at the last 10 years, what Sasha has been able to do and what Ashley has been able to do, and maybe a couple others...name the guys that can stay on top for 10 years. Never take a step back, always in the main event."
"Of course...I think the biggest pay-per-view match they could ever have is Ashley and Becky Lynch," Flair pondered. "I could fire that up again, round 2. I can fire that up."
It's always fun to hear Flair hype up Charlotte, and he makes a lot of very valid points here. While Banks/Mone is making huge money in AEW, it's obvious to everyone that she'd be a much bigger star in WWE. And, when it comes to The Queen, more world titles are surely inevitable at this stage of her career.
