Was WWE holding back Ricochet?
Ricochet is easily doing the best work of his career as a character since his time in Lucha Underground. The former WWE United States Champion turning heel has done wonders for him, and his current run makes you question whether the 36-year-old was used to the best of abilities in WWE.
Apparently, we could’ve gotten this Ricochet in WWE, but the AEW star’s idea fell on deaf ears to the people in charge.
“I’ve always tried to tell everybody about what I’m capable of and, if I can be my true self, who or what that can become. Ricochet said during his New York Post Sports interview.
“I think you saw glimpses of it in NXT when I first got there. I think you saw glimpses of the suit. I think you saw glimpses of the promos. I think you saw glimpses of the personality trying to shine through. I think you saw glimpses of it.
And then, 2019, I just got moved, and then I kind of got stuck in being a resident superhero. I got stuck in a weird position, I guess you would say. Heck, at the end of the day, I tried to do my best to show the world my own personality. But I mean, once you get stuck in a position you’re kind of there until they deem it different.
No matter how many ideas you pitch or how many things you say...I made videos, I made personal videos to put ‘em on. I did stuff. And until they really want it to happen, it’s just not gonna happen. But that could have been literally any day. It could have been the next week, you know what I’m saying? It could have been like, let’s use this guy.”
There’s no denying that getting out of WWE has done wonders for Ricochet’s career. Some guys do better in WWE. Other guys do better in AEW. Both promotions have a style that suits different wrestlers perfectly.
This isn’t the first time a former WWE star has talked about their creative struggles behind the scenes. Though it’s understandable why WWE saddled him with the residential babyface role since his moveset makes it hard for him to be a heel. Whatever the case may be, Ricochet is in a better place for his career and hopefully he keeps up the success.
Feel free to check out the entire interview, though Ricochet is in character here, so it’s best to take everything with a grain of salt.
