During Saturday's Royal Rumble PLE, Roman Reigns punched his ticket to WrestleMania when he eliminated Gunther and earned a title match at the Show of Shows in Las Vegas this April.
As of now, Drew McIntyre is the Undisputed WWE Champion, and CM Punk holds the World Heavyweight Championship. Reigns will appear on RAW tonight, and Dave Meltzer is reporting that the OTC 1 will challenge the Best in the World at WrestleMania.
This would mark the first time they've squared off in a singles match since 2014, and serves as a follow-up to the Triple Threat match from last year's WrestleMania that included Seth Rollins.
As of now, it's looking increasingly likely that McIntyre will defend his title against Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu.
It was previously reported that Reigns would face Rhodes on the Grandest Stage of Them All, but WWE later scrapped those plans. The stage was set for that match at Survivor Series: WarGames last November, so how the company now pivots to Punk promises to be very interesting.
During a recent interview with Pat McAfee, the Head of the Table appeared to criticise WWE for failing to build new stars:
"I think, you know, I mean, there’s always a mindset of that, you know, but to be completely honest and transparent here, you know, two years ago, it all changed around. And, you know, what I’ve been doing out there hasn’t exactly been the same as what I’ve done before. And the way I look at it is I’m a generous Tribal Chief. I give the people plenty of time. These young talent get over kids. Get over. You know what I mean?"
"And we’re two years here now, and we haven’t advanced. We haven’t evolved. You know what I mean? We have great leadership in Nick Khan, God bless him, what a businessman. He’s a genius. But we have to be able to keep up with that creatively. And that’s why people like me, people who are striving to be the very best, the greatest, the GOATs, the MJs, I just can’t sit around and see mediocracy. Not when I set it up for everybody to just slam at home."
"I mean, we’re on Netflix for crying out loud. You gotta capitalize. We got people over here playing around trying to figure out. And I got the formula. I know how to cook it up. You know what I mean?"
WrestleMania 42 takes place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19.
