As we explained in our recap of WWE Backlash, Cody Rhodes managed to pick up a win over Brock Lesnar during the PLE in Puerto Rico last night.
While it was something of a fluke, the American Nightmare managed to outsmart the Beast by shifting his momentum in the Kimura Lock in order to roll his opponent up for the 1-2-3. A win is a win, and that came after Lesnar was busted open after going head-first into the exposed turnbuckle.
Bleeding profusely during the closing moments of the match, Lesnar was aghast after being beaten and left alone in the ring as Rhodes made his way backstage.
A video has now emerged showing that, once cameras stopped rolling, fans in attendance gave Lesnar a standing ovation!
Considering the fact he's meant to be a dastardly heel, this is definitely surprising, and a visibly shocked Lesnar stood in the ring for a few minutes to soak up the cheers and "Suplex City" chants. Clearly pumped up by the fans, he jumped around the squared circle and then made his way to the back.
This is definitely an unexpected reaction for a heel wrestler, though we're guessing the extremely hot Puerto Rico crowd was just excited to see one of WWE's biggest names in action.
Last night was the first time WWE has held a PLE there since 2005 and Lesnar's first time ever in the territory. It's unlikely this will reflect what we saw on RAW and SmackDown moving forward and it seems likely The Beast will continue to be a heel, particularly if he has unfinished business with Rhodes.
