With Night of Champions now in WWE's rearview, the build to Evolution 2 and Saturday Night's Main Event has begun. During last night's RAW, we learned that a Battle Royal will take place at the event, with huge championship implications for the winner.
Women from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT are expected to compete, and the victor will go on to the Clash in Paris PLE to challenge for the Women's Championship of their choosing.
According to BodySlam.net's Cory Hays, Stephanie Vaquer is the current internal favourite to win the Battle Royal match. This would put her on track for the biggest push of her WWE career to date, moving her straight into the main event scene for a bout taking place in front of what's sure to be a red-hot crowd.
It's an exciting time for the women most recently called up from NXT. Giulia became the new Women's United States Champion during Friday's SmackDown in Saudi Arabia, while Roxanne Perez now holds the Women's Tag Team titles with Raquel Rodriguez.
Talking of that championship, Hays has also learned that WWE plans to have Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair represent SmackDown in the four-way Tag Team title match being planned for Evolution 2. Their pairing has been teased on television for several weeks now.
It was during last night's RAW that we learned Perez and Rodriguez will have to defend their titles against teams from the Monday night show, SmackDown, and NXT at the PLE. According to this report, WWE is stacking the card with as much star power and "dream match potential" as possible.
"When they first called me said NXT or main roster, I said main roster," Vaquer revealed earlier this year, explaining that she eventually changed her mind. "I thought, 'Take it easy. I need to learn English.' I changed to NXT."
As for why she chose that over AEW, Vaquer added, "My dream. WWE is my dream. WWE is for me...I [chose] NXT because I like to do new things, but good. I don’t like the fast. That’s no good. I needed to learn English. I needed to learn TV. I needed to learn American style, WWE style."
Evolution 2 is long-overdue and is shaping up to be a very exciting show. As always, keep checking back here for updates on the next WWE PLE as we have them.
