Ten Wild Moments In The Attitude or Ruthless Aggression Era That’s Been Forgotten

The Attitude and Ruthless Aggression eras will always be remembered for some of the wildest moments in professional wrestling and some of those moments have been forgotten over time.

'I Choppy-Choppy Your Pee-Pee!' Mr. Yamaguchi Almost Chops Off Val Venis’s Penis

The Attitude Era was no stranger to sex.

Cue to the sex God himself, Val Venis. The porn star turned professional wrestler was the very epitome of what the attitude era was about. So was his feud with Mr. Yamaguchi. This all stems from the former Intercontinental Champion having some hot and steamy fun with Mr. Yamaguchi’s wife, Shian-Li Tsang.

Naturally, Mr. Yamaguchi did what any sane man would do in this situation; threaten to chop Val Venis’s pee-pee off. And Mr. Yamaguchi almost brought that dream to fruition. Him and the Kaientai stable grabbed the adult star and dragged Venis into the locker room.

The stable would strip Venis naked and Mr. Yamaguchi had his trusty katana in hand. Then he chopped the little bastard off. Well, actually, the cameras cut to black before Mr. Yamaguchi did some actual woodwork.

It was revealed the following week that John Wayne Bobbitt saved Venis seconds before his pecker was cut off. But this scene is a stark reminder of just how insane the Attitude Era was, and that nothing was off limits at this time.

Al Snow Eats Pepper

The Big Boss Man would’ve made the perfect anime villain.

Some of the things that the former WWE star did during this era were either over-the-top insanity or straight-up vile. This moment is the latter. Big Boss Man and Al Snow entered a feud for the Hardcore Championship and the main thing people remember was the first and only Kennel from Hell match.

That match itself was God awful, but leading into the bout, Big Boss Man did something heinous to Al Snow’s dog; he had a personal chef chop him up and forced the former Hardcore Champion to eat him.

While Pepper was likely sleeping comfortably inside his doghouse during this time, the thought of someone forcing another man to eat his animal’s remains was rather sick and vomit-inducing. And this was all for the Hardcore Championship.

Big Boss Man steals the coffin of Big Show’s father at his funeral

So The Big Show and Big Boss Man had a feud.

Was it a good one? No, but it surely had its memorable moments. You see, Big Boss Man was terrorizing the WWE Champion and his family. Say what you will about whether The Big Boss Man was main event material or not, but his segments throughout this short rivalry were wildly entertaining.

One of those segments happened to be the “death” of Big Show’s father. The WWE Champion was at the funeral with family and friends and America’s favorite police officer showed up.

Big Boss Man talked a lot of shit about Show and made sexual advances towards his mother. Long story short, Big Boss Man linked a chain to the coffin and dragged it away as Show rode on it for a few seconds like a scared surfer.

The entire segment was silly and it was impossible to take this feud seriously. This rivalry was meant to be something serious to elevate The Big Show as the WWE Champion. In reality, it devalued Big Show’s first title run because of how laughably bad this entire rivalry was.

Droz Pushes Hawk Off The Titan Tron

It’s no secret that Vince McMahon likes controversy. At least the kind that can make him a quick buck. There’s been a string of controversial moments that have played out on television; Whether it’s the infamous Katie Vick angle or Muhammad Hassan, creative was never afraid to push the boundaries for ratings.

That was the case of Hawk’s attempted suicide angle. The Road Warriors are one of the most decorated tag teams in professional wrestling. So it was baffling that WWE tried to break up Animal and Hawk by exploiting Hawk’s personal demons. It was no secret that the WWE Hall of Famer had dealt with substance abuse throughout his career. Despite the duo’s objections, Vince carried on with the controversial story.

WWE decided to add a third member to The Road Warriors - Puke. In the meantime, Hawk was on a downward spiral. That spiral would lead to him climbing the titantron on the November 16, 1998 episode of RAW. It was clear that Hawk was threatening to jump off the titantron.

It was an uncomfortable and classless segment. The cherry on top was Droz pushing Hawk off of the titantron. The segment was panned universally and the story was dropped immediately afterwards. A terrible segment that had no business seeing the light of day.

Heidenreich Rapes Michael Cole

How would you like to see a man raped on national television?

Well, that’s the segment we got on September 16, 2004. Heidenreich isn’t a name that many fans remember fondly. The former WWE star was one of Vince’s busts in the early 2000s; He was given a decent push, but it was clear that Heidenreich wasn’t ready for it because his in-ring work was as green as goose shit.

But there is one bizarre segment that haunts Heidenreich’s career. This respective segment saw the former WWE star kidnap Michael Cole and take him to a dark room. Michael Cole was faced against the wall terrified. Heidenreich’s entire speech was nothing but sexual innuendo.

But believe it or not, that’s not what made this segment memorable. It’s the constant pelvic thrusts that imply that Heidenreich was giving Michael a feel of little Jimmy. The moment was supposed to paint Heidenreich as a lunatic, but it came across as one of Vince’s wet dreams playing out on national television.

The funny thing is, this segment is based on a dream Vince McMahon had. Heidenreich revealed that during The Shoot radio interview. You can imagine that experience was uncomfortable for both Michael Cole and Heidenreich, but the former WWE star said he was happy that he was doing the raping instead of getting raped. Imagine being remembered for a segment where you’re dry-raping another dude. Poor Heidenreich.

Goldust Stuttering Gimmick

Remember Matt Morgan?

Don’t feel bad if you don’t. But the former WWE star had a stuttering gimmick that massively failed to get over. Vince McMahon was determined to get that gimmick over, so he opted to give it to Goldust. Now, Goldust was an oddball character. A sexually androgynous performer who had a lust for the spotlight.

However, the Goldust gimmick was a winner. It helps that Dustin Rhodes was so in tune with the gimmick, but creative gave him plenty of funny moments throughout his illustrious career.  Goldust was on a high as his partnership with Booker T was a success, but Vince McMahon likely wanted to shake things up.

So Goldust was given a stuttering gimmick after Batista and Randy Orton sent him flying into an electrical box. The moment itself is far from the worst thing WWE has done. However, it’s the stuttering gimmick that’s more of a problem. Admittedly, Goldust made the stuttering gimmick work.

There are plenty of funny segments with the performer, but it’s WWE’s insensitive poke at the mentally challenged that would stir up quite a controversy if it happened today. The stuttering gimmick is harmless fun overall as the company doesn’t push too many boundaries, but the world has changed since 2002.

Since Triple H takes more of a realistic approach to wrestling, this would stick out like a sore thumb and be a political nightmare for the company. Not as bad as some of the other moments on the list, just a massive PR headache for WWE if this happened in 2024.

Kurt Angle Wants Perverted and Beastiality Sex With Sharmell

Kurt Angle is one of the best wrestlers to ever step into a wrestling ring.

The WWE Hall of Famer had it all: charisma, mic skills, and in-ring talent. When you look back at Kurt’s career, that was a clear blessing. But it can also be a curse. WWE had no issues putting Kurt in strange storylines. But his stalker gimmick with Sharmell was the most uncomfortable.

Now Sharmell herself told Chris Van Vliet that she had no problem with the story overall, but that doesn’t make it easier to watch. However, there was one moment that stood out from all the rest.

Kurt saying that he wanted to have perverted and beastiality sex with Sharmell.

WWE has never been good with subtlety as Vince thinks the audience is stupid. So it’s normal for WWE stars to blatantly explain their actions despite it being obvious that Kurt Angle was trying to get that Gawk Gawk 3000 from Sharmell.

But this promo was bad. And this isn’t even Kurt Angle’s fault. The former WWE Champion has tons of charisma, but that seemed to disappear when he was reciting this promo. The moment felt awkward and Kurt was stilted throughout the entire segment. It didn’t help that Kurt had to recite some of the worst dialogue ever written.

Beastiality sex? Is this some wild venture within Vince’s life? Whatever the case may be, terrible stories like this have ruined careers. Luckily, Kurt Angle was an established name who had proven his talent before he became a stalker. You think Vince would’ve learned from the failed DDP stalker storyline, but I guess the big man needed to give it one more chance.

Snitsky Kicks A Baby

The Lita/Kane story was…strange. And that’s putting it nicely because the whole story boils down to Kane raping Lita and getting her “pregnant”. The entire Kane/Lita pairing was uncomfortable to watch, and it didn’t get better when WWE turned the “Big Red Machine” face. The former WWE Champion started to feud with Gene Snitsky, WWE's latest tall guy who didn’t deserve a push.

The main reason for this feud starting was Snitsky causing Lita to have a miscarriage. But the story only got worse. Snitsky came out to taunt Lita for the miscarriage by bringing out a fake baby. The segment ended with Snitsky punt-kicking the doll into the audience.

It was obvious from the beginning that the baby was fake, but the circumstances surrounding this segment made it cringeworthy. While Snitsky’s punt-kicking skills should be commended, this feud was dead on arrival. The babyface was a man who RAPED THE WOMAN HE GOT PREGNANT! A misguided feud that didn’t help Snitsky’s career.

Dawn Marie and Al Wilson’s Wedding

Can you believe that Paul Heyman was the mastermind of this feud?

It was stupid and over-the-top, but the Al Wilson/Torrie Wilson/Dawn Marie fiasco was also the very definition of so-bad-it’s-good. It’s not hard to see why Vince went along with this as it contains three of his favorite things: sex, lesbianism, and death.

This whole thing was about Dawn Marie trying to have a one-night stand with Torrie. The WWE Hall of Famer refused, so Dawn Marie did what most sane women do when they’re rejected: she started boinking Torrie’s dad. This started a string of cringey segments.

That’s where the wedding comes in. For some reason, weddings in wrestling are a big draw. But what made this angle so unforgettable was that mid-way through the wedding, both Dawn Marie and Al Wilson stripped down to their underwear! There was actually a tease of Dawn Marie stripping AL Wilson nude.

The wedding turned into a commercial for an unannounced sex tape that NOBODY wanted to see. But it only got better from here. After Dawn Marie killed Torrie’s father during their honeymoon, Torrie and Dawn got into a catfight during Al’s funeral.

This was the type of soap opera stuff that fans hated. And it all led to a bad match at the 2003 Royal Rumble. This was one of the worst feuds ever created during the Paul Heyman era. But the segments were like a car crash, it was something you couldn’t help but look away from.

Mickie James kidnaps Ashley Massaro and attacks Trish Stratus

Mickie James and Trish is celebrated as one of the best women's feuds ever, and for good reason. The story was entertaining and for the most part, it made logical sense. Was it over the top? Definitely, but there’s a reason why fans are so fond of Mickie James.

When you look back at this feud, most people point out the memorable kiss Mickie planted on Trish under the mistletoe. Or the infamous V-gesture Mickie made during their WrestleMania match.

But the kidnapping segment with Mickie and Ashley Massaro is also one of the big highlights of their rivalry. Mickie asking Ashley, “Do you think I’m crazy now?” was perfect irony and the former WWE star played her part extremely well throughout the segment.

This represents the cheesy, sports entertainment aspects that we love so much about WWE. The story of Mickie James and Trish Stratus was far from perfect, but it had the best elements of wrestling that fans resonated with.
