WWE has issued a press release confirming that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will return to WWE during this evening's episode of SmackDown on the USA Network.
Here's what the company has shared about the Brahma Bull's planned appearance on the blue brand:
THE FINAL BOSS RETURNS TO SMACKDOWN TOMORROW
February 20, 2025 – WWE, part of TKO Group Holdings, today announced that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will appear on SmackDown – live from Smoothie King Center in New Orleans – tomorrow night at 8pm ET on USA Network.
"Strap in," said WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque. "When The Final Boss shows up at this time of year, the audience knows absolutely anything is possible. Everything could change in an instant."
So, what is The Rock there for? There's been some speculation about him finally getting involved in WrestleMania but it almost seems too little, too late at this stage. Then again, there's still plenty of time to build to a match with Roman Reigns or for him to get involved with the ongoing Bloodline drama.
Teasing his intentions on Instagram, Johnson said, "The Final Boss is coming to handle business, deliver a big beautiful gift to the city of New Orleans, and [frick] up a certain someone’s life with the Final Boss gospel."
That certainly sounds like his SmackDown return could lead to a match, but @WrestleVotes brings word that this is all about next year's WrestleMania. Tonight's show takes place in New Orleans and that's where next year's Show of Show is rumoured to take place. With that in mind, The Rock sharing the news does make sense.
Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
