The Rock Sends Message To John Cena Ahead Of Retirement; Gunther Addresses Lack Of Interactions With Cena

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has sent a message to John Cena ahead of the 17-time WWE Champion's final match this weekend, while Gunther has weighed in on his lack of interactions with his opponent.

Like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, John Cena has looked beyond WWE and found great success in Hollywood. The two men, both top stars during their respective runs, main-evented WrestleMania twice together, and The Rock was there for Cena's heel turn back in March.

The Final Boss hasn't been seen in WWE since, largely because he's busy trying to be perceived as a serious actor and not the lead of a failed DC franchise like Black Adam. So far, that seems to be paying off, as he was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his work in The Smashing Machine.

Cena recently shared the news on Instagram, prompting The Rock to reply, "Love ya man and as you know, always grateful for all you’ve done for the business we love. You are truly the GOAT. Bring your moonshine, I’ll bring the tequila."

In the past, there's been no love lost between the Leader of the Cenation and the Brahma Bull. They've seemingly put their differences aside since then. However, recent comments from Cena suggested that there may be some hard feelings about Johnson abandoning the Peacemaker star during his heel run (which ended up receiving a mixed response from fans).

Cena will have his last match at this weekend's Saturday Night's Main Event when he faces former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.

Talking to ESPN, the Austrian confirmed he hopes to defeat the 17-time WWE Champion "The last chapter will be written on Saturday. It’s just a question, is it going to be a happy end, or is it going to be a heartbreak?" Gunther said. "Exactly, and I’m going to do everything in my power that it’s going to be a heartbreak."

"I’m looking for him to give up, to admit he can’t go no more," he continued. "That’s what I’m gonna go for. And, yeah, I think that’s what a drama is as well, in that match going into it."

There haven't been any interactions between Cena and Gunther before now, something that's robbed the match of feeling as big as it arguably should. The Ring General, however, isn't too concerned and knows his role.

"I can’t count one hand like it’s maybe I shook his hand three times, said hello," Gunther explained. "That’s all the interaction I had with him so far. Usually it’s, I know all my opponents, more or less, we all work in the same company, but it’s not the case with him."

"I’m there to write people up. That’s my that’s my role. That’s my job," he added. "When you have a legend that has been in the business for such a long time, so many people have memories with them. They want them to go out with a big fanfare. It doesn’t always work out like that."

Who will you be rooting for at Saturday Night's Main Event?
