In one of the most surprising finishes to WWE Monday Night Raw in quite some time, The Vision has abandoned Seth Rollins and turned on their leader!
There is a lot to unpack here, so let's hit the rewind button a bit.
Heading into WWE Crown Jewel, Seth Rollins asked Paul Heyman what would happen if he failed to beat Cody Rhodes. Heyman, ever the suck-up, continued to say that The American Nightmare wouldn't win. Rollins pressed on, and eventually, Heyman admitted that if Rollins were to lose, he would also lose the respect of the rest of the faction (Heyman himself, as well as Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed).
At Crown Jewel, Heyman also warned Breakker and Reed not to come out to help Rollins in the match, even if he were to beg them to do so. "This is a meritocracy" he said, and that Rollins needed to win on his own. Technically, Rollins did just that, even though he still had to cheat by using a foreign object (the Rolex watch that Cody Rhodes had gifted him from WrestleMania XL) to get the victory.
Kicking off Raw today, Rollins cut a promo about how great he is, while also praising the rest of The Vision. Later on, he had another segment backstage where he continued to be overly optimistic about their future, talking about how as great as the past few months have been, he could see even better things to come in the months down the road.
What he couldn't see, though, was how wrong that would be by the end of the night.
The main event was a Triple Threat match between CM Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight to determine the next No. 1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. Punk managed to score the win and secure himself a future title shot.
Following that victory, Uso, Knight, and Punk were all attacked by Reed and Breakker, while Heyman and Rollins looked on and smiled.
Then, out of nowhere, Breakker speared Rollins.
As the initial shock washed over the crowd, Breakker spoke to Reed about making a choice. Reed decided to go along with Breakker, splashing the world heavyweight champion with a tsunami (something he had done countless times before they had become a team).
Heyman seemed confused and bewildered when Breakker picked him off the ground. Breakker then also picked up the World Heavyweight Championship title belt and held it high as Heyman raised his hand (and Reed's) to show that he is sticking to them and disavowing his alignment to Rollins.
The Visionary was blindsided, and there is no telling what this means for the future of Monday Night Raw, how this could play into the build for Survivor Series: WarGames, and the WWE landscape as a whole.
