The WWE Tag Team Championship has changed hands on the January 23, 2026 edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown as the MFTs have defeated The Wyatt Sicks to win the titles.
How did this go down tonight, what led to this, and what could be on the horizon? Let's break it all down!
How We Got Here:
For many weeks, The Wyatt Sicks have been embroiled in a feud with the MFTs, predominantly just started out of nothing, but eventually becoming about both the tag team titles and the Bray Wyatt lantern they carry around, which was stolen by Solo Sikoa's crew.
Match Details:
Out of the five members of the MFT stable, the two who were chosen to be in this match were Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga (as opposed to JC Mateo, Tonga Loa, or Talla Tonga, who were ringside to help get involved anyway, of course). Naturally, the proper tag team champions of Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy were defending the titles, with the other Wyatt Sicks members also ringside.
Too much attention was given to the lantern that MFT had stolen, and in all that commotion, The Wyatt Sicks doubly failed as they were not only unable to retain their titles, but managed to lose control of the lantern as well, walking away with nothing but defeat.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
This was the right call. The Wyatt Sicks just weren't really accomplishing much with the tag titles. This division needs more regularly defending champions who are easier to book, and The Wyatt Sicks are stuck in a weird tweener position. MFTs aren't my go-to first choice to be holding the titles right now, either, but at least this gives them something to do.
As far as the next champions are concerned, my eyes are on Fraxiom to eventually get those titles, but it all depends on if there are any changes to the roster. Axiom and Nathan Frazer are my picks until Superstars get switched around.
