We have new tag team champions in the WWE women's division as The Kabuki Warriors have lost the titles to Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley on the January 5, 2026 edition of Monday Night Raw.
How did this go down tonight, what led to this, and what could be on the horizon? Let's break it all down!
How We Got Here:
This feud has been going on for months. I'm not sure off the top of my head how long, but it's been at least sometime around the late summer, if I remember correctly, with Asuka being jealous of Iyo Sky's friendship with Rhea Ripley. It took weeks upon weeks of Ripley telling Sky not to trust The Kabuki Warriors, Sky saying that she still had too much respect and love for Asuka to think differently, and eventually, coming to terms with how they aren't really her friends. Then, they've just been bouncing around the tag team division along with some other teams in various pairings, including the War Games match at Survivor Series 2025, before eventually settling on this title shot.
Match Details:
This was the first title match of the night for this special episode, so starting off with a title change shouldn't be all that surprising.
The finish came about when Ripley hit the Riptide on Asuka and Sky followed that with her trademark moonsault and took out Sane to make sure she couldn't break up the pin.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
Like with most title changes, it's hard to tell if this will be a great decision or not until we see how the reign plays out. However, I think this is a case where WWE just wants to bounce the belts around for a bit. I don't anticipate a long reign for Rhiyo, particularly as both should be in contention for possible Royal Rumble victories. But in the meantime, they'll have some matches with teams like Lash Legend and Nia Jax, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria.
Tell us what you think about this title change by leaving a comment below! Who do you think will be the next in line to challenge for the title, or possibly even win the belt next? Keep the discussion going!
