Survivor Series: WarGames ended with a huge cliffhanger last night after a masked figure entered the cage and hit Seth Rollins' signature Curb Stomp on CM Punk.
That allowed Bron Breakker to take advantage, and he hit the World Heavyweight Champion with a Spear to win the match for his team. WWE didn't unmask the mystery attacker, but Rollins really is injured, and we're not being swerved with another surprise return from The Visionary.
According to PWInsider.com, Austin Theory was the man under the mask.
During a post-show press conference, Paul Heyman denied having any knowledge of the masked Superstar's identity. However, before Rollins' injury put him on the shelf, the plan had been for Theory to join The Vision. Instead, it seems he's out to earn himself a spot in the group, and with Paul Heyman and fellow rising stars Breakker and Bronson Reed by his side, the former United States Champion's future looks bright.
Theory was once Vince McMahon's clear top choice to be WWE's next top star. Triple H didn't appear to feel the same way, and Theory quickly started falling down the card, where he languished in the tag team division alongside Grayson Waller.
His being added to The Vision suggests that The Game now intends to give him a main event run, and we'd argue it's long overdue. We don't know when WWE will unmask Theory, but tomorrow night's episode of RAW does seem pretty likely.
There was a time when it looked like Theory was guaranteed to become WWE Champion as he held the Money in the Bank briefcase. However, when he reflected on that last year, Theory admitted that it was never likely.
"I don’t feel like there’s ever a plan. To be honest with you, the only thing that I kind of knew that was going to be if you know a match you’re going to have at a pay-per-view, if you’re kind of on that road like Cena for example I knew we did the promo, so I know we’re going to have the match. But honestly, like a lot of things, like, even when I had the US title the first time [shrugs], Money in the Bank [shrugs], second time US Title [shrugs], you know, it’s just kind of seeing what rolls."
"And then at the same time too, with the briefcase, I was in such a tough spot, because Roman Reigns, the position he was in and where they were going with him. I would have loved to cash in on Roman, even if it was a failed attempt, I think that would have been cool because I would have never cashed in on the United States Championship."
