Backlash takes place tonight at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, and one of the most intriguing matches will see Danhausen and a mystery partner take on The Miz and Kit Wilson in tag team action.
Last night's SmackDown saw the fan-favourite Danhausen attempt to clone himself, only for the experiment to seemingly fail. So, who will he enlist to take on the heel duo? Speculation online points to former World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, but we now have a potential spoiler from Bryan Alvarez.
"I can’t confirm this, but I am hearing speculation that the mystery partner for Danhausen is, in fact, Jelly Roll, which would make a LOT more sense than an unadvertised PLE appearance by CM Punk," the insider wrote on X.
This does—fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you feel about celebrity involvement in WWE–make a lot of sense. Remember, before he was inserted into Cody Rhodes' feud with Randy Orton alongside Pat McAfee, Jelly Roll was feuding with The Miz and Wilson.
In fact, all signs were pointing to him doing something with them at WrestleMania, so this might be WWE's way of going back to that abandoned storyline.
While he's not to everyone's liking, Danhausen's WWE debut has been a hit, adding something new and fresh to the product. Tonight's match should give him the chance to shine in a big way.
Backlash streams tonight live on the ESPN App (with an ESPN Unlimited Plan) in the United States and on Netflix everywhere else at 6 ET/3 PT. In addition, there will be expert analysis during the WWE Backlash Countdown on Saturday at 4 ET/1 PT on WWE.com, ESPN, and WWE social platforms, including YouTube and TikTok.
You can also watch a special Backlash post-show featuring key Superstars immediately after the event on the ESPN App and YouTube.
