CM Punk's feud with Drew McIntyre ended at Bad Blood when the Best in the World bested the Scottish Psychopath inside Hell in a Cell. Since then, his rivalry with Seth Rollins appears to have resumed and rumour has it they'll clash during the first RAW on Netflix.
We'll see, but it's now being reported that WWE will return to Chicago on December 29 for a non-televised Live Event that's part of the company's annual Holiday Tour.
There, Punk will reportedly face current World Heavyweight Champion Gunther inside a Steel Cage. Based on past experience, there's a chance this is meant to test the waters for the two men feuding on the Road to WrestleMania and, if WWE is moving on from Punk vs. Rollins, it would certainly be exciting to see the Second City Saint to dethrone Gunther on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
You may recall recent reports that said WWE had, at one point, considered Punk vs. Gunthrr for Survivor Series: WarGames. Instead, the heel successfully defended his title against Damian Priest and Punk joined the OG Bloodline for one night only.
"I’m still reconciling with the schedule and the fact that I’m not 30 years old," Punk said in a recent interview when asked about his plans in WWE moving forward. "When you ask, ‘Who do you want to get in the ring with?’ The list is pretty lengthy. Chad Gable is at the top of the list. Bronson Reed as at the top of the list. [Ludwig] Kaiser is somebody I see a lot in and would be fun. Gunther."
"I’m selfishly talking about guys I would love to wrestle on house shows. Then you talk about the money stuff. The marquee stuff. What is a match you can see main eventing a pay-per-view. That’s what gets my juices flowing."
"Whenever myself and Roman Reigns are face to face on television, that’s going to be a moment. The table is set for myself and Cody [Rhodes]," he added. "You never know when The Rock is going to come back. There is big match John [Cena] coming right around the corner."
Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
