WWE Puts Upcoming Title Match On Hiatus For A Future Date

A championship match that was previously set up simultaneously got confirmed, as well as pushed back to happen "sometime" in the future. Find out who is opting to wait for their title match.

Maxxine Dupri has earned a title shot, but she's not going to get one just yet.

On tonight's episode of WWE Monday Night Raw (for October 27, 2025), there was a backstage segment between Dupri and Raw General Manager Adam Pearce. Pearce praised Dupri for getting her second win over Becky Lynch — as previously, Dupri beat Lynch by count out on the October 6th episode of Raw, followed by last week, in their Women's Intercontinental Championship match, Dupri won by disqualification.

As a result, the way Pearce sees it, she's earned another shot at the Women's Intercontinental Championship. The third time's the charm, he said.

But Dupri actually declined, in a way.

Stating that she thinks that she's not quite ready yet, she asked Pearce if it would be okay if she called upon a friend (not revealed) to help train her to make sure she is. Dupri knows how few and far between title opportunities can come someone's way, so she wants to make the most of it.

Pearce agreed to the idea, saying that whenever she is ready, to give him a call, and she'll have her title match.

What's interesting about this is that WWE is clearly in a holding pattern with this and felt the need to address it, while also reiterating that their plans are not going to deviate. They're just being stalled, for whatever reason.

WWE could have had this happen at Saturday Night's Main Event this coming weekend, but chose not to. They could have also announced this for next week's episode of Raw. In the past, they've even had people say "in two weeks" for future episodes. But they didn't say that, either, which indicates this may be held off for even longer.

Is that due to an injury? Does this have to do with keeping Becky Lynch off television for some story purpose with The Vision? Is there a scheduling conflict that prevents them from just announcing it, given how it's certainly not going to be at Survivor Series, you'd think?

For whatever reason, WWE doesn't want fans to think this has been shelved, but they don't feel comfortable announcing a date for it.

In the meantime, I expect Dupri's friend to be Natalya or AJ Lee, and possibly to see some vignettes about them training on next week's episode of Raw to build up to this.
