Over the coming weeks, we have Saturday Night's Main Event, Evolution 2, and the first-ever two-night SummerSlam to look forward to. It's a jam-packed summer for WWE, and one most fans hope will make up for a pretty big lull after this year's WrestleMania.
Today, we have updates on many of those shows, and the latest on whether AEW star Britt Baker is gearing up to make her WWE debut.
There are also contract updates on the likes of AJ Styles and Scarlett, along with details on WWE's creative plans in the coming weeks. Finally, we have some major spoilers from tonight's SmackDown (which was pre-taped so Superstars could spend the 4th of July with their families).
You can read through these latest WWE rumours below:
- If you feel that the build to the upcoming Evolution 2 PLE has been a little last-minute, you're not alone. According to Fightful, women in WWE "felt like it was set up" to fail as a result of being booked opposite All In, a nearby Beyoncé concert, and MLB All-Star festivities in Atlanta. They're also saying that the show has been "hastily produced."
- The site reports that AJ Styles has quietly signed a one-year deal with WWE, suggesting he intends to remain in the company as his in-ring career winds down.
- Talking of contract negotiations, it's said that both Karrison Kross and Scarlett's respective deals expire next month. Sources expect them both to be re-signed.
- The situation surrounding AEW star Britt Baker and her possible WWE future continues making headlines. BodySlam.net has learned that while she's "actively seeking to part ways with AEW," Tony Khan "isn’t looking to release Baker from her contract." Why? He's worried she'd make her WWE debut in her hometown of Pittsburgh or at Evolution 2.
- For what it's worth, PWInsider has heard from "multiple sources" that "there have been no discussions about Baker exiting the company, asking for a release or being close to being contractually free."
- Musician Jelly Roll has been announced for upcoming episodes of SmackDown, and he may work a short program as @WrestleVotes has heard it's likely the "start of something more" with him in WWE.
- The Miz is expected to make his WWE return "soon" now that work on Amazon's American Gladiators reboot has wrapped, according to Bryan Alvarez.
- Travis Scott was rumoured to be John Cena's Money in the Bank tag team partner, but Logan Paul was ultimately paired up with the Undisputed WWE Championship. Recent comments from the influencer on his podcast suggest Scott was "a little fickle with his training."
- @WrestleVotes has since indicated that, after making a bunch of merchandise for the rapper's scrapped Money in the Bank role, they've likely moved on from working with him.
- Tonight's SmackDown was taped in advance, but it's going to be a big one. Drew McIntyre returns, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss form a team, Tiffany Stratton announces that she'll defend the WWE Women's Championship against Trish Stratus at Evolution 2, and Randy Orton vs. McIntyre is made official for Saturday Night's Main Event.
