Backlash only just happened, but up next for WWE is Saturday Night's Main Event. The show will be headlined by Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena vs. R-Truth, and while we're not expecting anything too major to happen, Money in the Bank is also fast approaching.
That and SummerSlam are two of the biggest events of the summer, so it's no great surprise that the rumour mill is once again churning out some pretty wild claims.
In today's WWE rumour roundup, we have an update on plans for CM Punk vs. John Cena, the latest on WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg's retirement match, Evolution 2 news, and plans for Cody Rhodes.
As always, these are best taken with a pinch of salt. However, we've combed through the probable BS to bring you only the most reliable inside information about what may or may not be to come in WWE in the coming weeks and months.
You can check out these latest WWE rumours below.
- Despite reports that WWE won't be revisiting John Cena and CM Punk's rivalry at Money in the Bank, the company intends to have them square off this year "when the timing is right," according to PW Insider Elite.
- Currently, the "belief in WWE creative circles" is that rapper Travis Scott will team with Cena at the PLE, either in a regular or 6-man tag team match. Scott has reportedly been training with Booker T in Houston.
- While CM Punk was advertised for Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, the Second City Saint has now been replaced by Seth Rollins in the promo. We're hearing he won't compete at the show, and if that's by choice, it means he'll likely miss next year's Royal Rumble PLE.
- During Monday's RAW, it was confirmed that Gunther will challenge the winner of Jey Uso vs. Logan Paul for the World Heavyweight Championship on the June 9 edition of the show. According to @WrestleVotes, "There will be an angle coming out of that involving Gunther — just a way to get him off the Money in the Bank card and onto a big Monday Night Raw to set something else up."
- What will that be? Well, it may be setting up a match with Goldberg at Night of Champions on June 28 (which will be the WWE Hall of Famer's retirement bout).
- The all-women's Evolution 2 PLE is still scheduled for July, but will be a little different from other recent WWE events. @WrestleVotes has revealed that there will be "upwards of seven, potentially eight matches and a battle royal to make sure everybody makes the card."
- It's added that Charlotte Flair vs. Jade Cargill is one of the matches being considered for the show.
- Liv Morgan has reportedly finished filming her scenes for Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, and PW Insider has heard she "crushed" it. The Woman's Tag Team Champion is also expected to be back in WWE "very soon."
- Fightful Select has learned that many people in WWE were against The Rock's idea of Cody Rhodes turning heel, especially as he was such a huge draw as the top babyface in the company.
- @WrestleVotes, meanwhile, is reporting that WWE is "planning to run multiple live events in Mexico in the near future, all centered around a featured 'SuperShow Mexico' event," and it's since been said that Rhodes will be front and centre (suggesting his WWE return is imminent).
