We're on the Road to WrestleMania and, with Elimination Chamber right around the corner, the rumour mill is back to churning out some big claims about what's on the way.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has been planning since last October to have John Cena win the Elimination Chamber match. That likely means he'll face Cody Rhodes as he looks to finish his story by winning a record 17th world title.
As for Roman Reigns, the OTC won't be in the match because WWE wants to avoid him taking a pinfall loss before the Show of Shows this April (where he's expected to face Seth Rollins and CM Punk in a Triple Threat match).
Talking of WrestleMania, Kevin Owens is currently on a collision course with Sami Zayn. However, that won't be the farewell to WWE some fans have speculated it might be amid reports his WWE contract is up. According to Fightful Select, Owens recently signed a five-year deal that will keep him in the company until January 2030.
In the case of Charlotte Flair, while WWE's original plan was for The Queen to be the babyface in her feud with WWE Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton, Backstage Pass has said the company has pivoted and is now set to use her as more of a heel.
WWE recently released nearly a dozen Superstars and Fightful says that there had been a pitch for Blair Davenport to join Chelsea Green and Piper Niven's faction on SmackDown. It didn't happen but "got as far as a secret service outfit being prepared."
There were reportedly no creative plans in place for the Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering after the Final Judgement's feud with the Wyatt Sicks and the feeling was Sonya Deville no longer had much of an "upward trajectory" following a decade in WWE.
Apparently, there had been a "great idea" for Giovanni Vinci to do "the rich playboy gimmick," only for it to come to nought (he had two matches with that new gimmick, lost both of them, and vanished).
Other updates include Chad Gable potentially working some dates in AAA while he's off attempting to "conquer the dark arts of lucha libre," Jordynne Grace "effectively [taking] a pay cut to join WWE," and Trish Stratus potentially being part of Elimination Chamber following her surprise return at the Royal Rumble.
WWE has also filed trademarks for the following ring names: Osiris Griffin, Haze Jameson, Trill London, Harley Riggins, Summer Sorrell, Jax Presley, Masyn Holiday, Drako Knox, Tate Wilder, Braxton Cole, Chantel Monroe, and Aria Bennett.
Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
