This year, the Road to WrestleMania is likely to begin during the first RAW on Netflix rather than at the Royal Rumble in February. Several major Superstars are being advertised for the show, including current Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and John Cena.
We're at the time of year when WWE's potential WrestleMania plans start leaking online; for example, we recently learned that Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk is among the ideas being considered.
Now, though, we have news on plans for the American Nightmare...and the Leader of the Cenation!
"Currently, the majority of the talk has circled around the idea of Cody Rhodes vs. Cena at WrestleMania for the WWE Championship," reports PWInsider.com.
The site adds, "It should be pointed out that many of those sources have noted that everything is subject to change, especially if The Rock descends down from 'Mountain Rock' (as one person joked) and wanted to work with either Cody or Cena at Wrestlemania, at which point any creative plans would be re-worked to fit into Rock’s vision."
It seems The Rock's potential return will change anything WWE has planned, but Rhodes vs. Cena would be a massive main event at the Showcase of the Immortals.
In related news, Dave Meltzer has disputed reports that Cena vs. Logan Paul is being planned for WrestleMania in Las Vegas.
"Regarding some rumors, there probably were talks of Cena vs. Logan Paul at Mania, and Logan Paul did ask for it, but we’re told it’s 100 percent not happening," the historian claims. "We also know the idea of Cena challenging for a world title to break the so-called record of 16 by Ric Flair is something that at least as a month ago could happen."
WWE currently has two world champions: Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, though either one of them could lose their respective titles in the coming months.
"I modelled a lot of my career after the man who was the lead dog when I was here initially, and that being John Cena," Rhodes revealed earlier this year. "'Hey, if you want the spot, if you want the ball, you have to work to my level,' was something you’d hear him say in interviews, and it was very real, very, and there was nobody who could match it at the time. In terms of being WWE Champion, you have to represent WWE at all times."
