Preview & Predictions for WWE Saturday Night's Main Event 2025:
On tap for today's event, the big draw is obviously Goldberg's supposed "final match" against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. I say supposed because he's had several matches that could have acted as a retirement, only to still come back every couple years, so there's nothing that says this is 100% definitively absolutely going to be the last one and that he won't just have the itch again. Of course, they're even setting up the idea that if he were to win the title, then that obviously wouldn't be his retirement. There are some people thinking that will happen and that Seth Rollins will cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but I think those people are trying to add more to this than what is really there. My theory is that this is just as simple as can be, that Gunther retains and that's it. If there's a Rollins cash in, it would surprise me. I wouldn't be opposed to it, though, as I don't think Gunther is doing great right now, and I don't want to see Goldberg as champion. But I think that Rollins is going to end up targeting Cody Rhodes and John Cena, rather than out of nowhere pinning Goldberg. For that matter, I think we're getting Gunther against CM Punk at SummerSlam, and THERE could also be a possibility for the cash-in.
I fully expect Solo Sikoa to retain the United States Championship. That's something that's an easy bet.
When it comes to LA Knight vs. Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton, there are no stakes to either match, so it ultimately doesn't matter. However, the momentum points more toward Rollins and McIntyre. The former has two big henchmen who can help him win and McIntyre is arguably the top person who could feud with Cody Rhodes after he potentially wins the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam.
Here are your results for WWE Saturday Night's Main Event 40:
- Randy Orton defeated Drew McIntyre by pinfall with some help from Jelly Roll, who also helped fight off Logan Paul, who went after Orton after the match. McIntyre then laid out Jelly Roll with a Claymore.
- After showing that Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley were both ringside watching the festivities, when Jade Cargill was also shown, she was then attacked by Naomi. Officials came out to separate them, and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced that Bianca Belair will be the special guest referee for their No Holds Barred match tomorrow at Evolution.
- United States Championship Match: Solo Sikoa (c) defeated Jimmy Uso by pinfall.
- LA Knight defeated Seth Rollins by pinfall. It appears Rollins has suffered an injury.
- World Heavyweight Championship Match: Gunther (c) defeated Goldberg by referee stoppage.
