Preview & Predictions for WWE SmackDown:
On tap for today's episode, all eyes are on the headlining act of Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre in a 3 Stages of Hell match. Different sources are reporting some scuttlebutt that fans should expect a title change, but I don't buy it at all. I wholly anticipate Rhodes retaining the title and for those reports to have been total b.s. and/or planted just to boost more interest. Maybe I'm wrong, though. We'll find out. But given how this is a regular match, a Falls Count Anywhere match, and a Steel Cage match, I think we'll see Rhodes win the first fall by disqualification with McIntyre getting himself DQ'ed in order to give himself an advantage for the weapons being usable in Falls Count Anywhere. He'll get that pin, and Cody will retain in the steel cage.
Trick Williams is going to have his debut match against Rey Fenix. Hopefully, it's a win for Trick, as he deserves to not lose his first impression to many people.
We don't know yet which four of the MFTs will face The Wyatt Sicks, but since it will lead to a title match, I think Solo Sikoa's group is victorious.
All that and more will go down tonight, so keep checking and refreshing for the most up-to-date results!
Here are your results for WWE SmackDown - January 9, 2026:
- Randy Orton was out for a promo segment in the ring, which Trick Williams interrupted. After some jaw-jacking, a fight broke out, where The Miz tried to also attack Orton to get some payback for last week, only to get taken out.
- Trick Williams defeated Rey Fenix by pinfall, grabbing a handful of tights for the three-count.
- There was around 20-some minutes of commercials, video packages, and backstage interviews just to recap last week or to remind people of matches coming later on this show, including setting up that Charlotte Flair is sick so she's not in attendance.
- Giulia retained the Women's United States Championship over Alexa Bliss by pinfall due in part to help from Kiana James, Lash Legend, and Nia Jax, who botched an Annihilator on Bliss after the match.
- Nick Aldis has signed Jordynne Grace to SmackDown. Chelsea Green wants a rematch for the Women's United States title. Kit Wilson then also interrupted to try to talk to Aldis about Matt Cardona, only to have the door shut on him.
- Now it's time for Matt Cardona to be interviewed, basically just to remind everyone that he's here, and for him to say he's also coming for the WWE Championship with a quick moment with Cody Rhodes.
- MFTs defeated The Wyatt Sicks in their eight-man tag team match.
- Both The Miz and Ilja Dragunov turned down Carmelo Hayes backstage when he was talking about his open challenge, because The Miz is still reeling from Orton taking him out earlier, and Dragunov wants to talk to Aldis about something else.
- Jordynne Grace beat Alba Fyre by pinfall. Jade Cargill then came out to belittle her, asking if she thinks she accomplished something, and reminding her that this is her show.
- Sami Zayn told Byron Saxton again about how he's coming for the WWE title, and picks Cody for tonight's match.
- Johnny Gargano was wearing Axiom's mask when he attacked Nathan Frazer backstage.
- Men's United States Championship Open Challenge: Carmelo Hayes (c) defeated Shinsuke Nakamura by pinfall.
- 3 Stages of Hell Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre defeated Cody Rhodes (c) by winning the first and third decisions to become the new champion! McIntyre won the first fall after a low blow, got pinned by a Cross Rhodes for the Falls Count Anywhere match, and won the steel cage match by escaping the cage as Jacob Fatu returned but attacked both of them and was busy with Rhodes at the time.
