Preview & Predictions for WWE SmackDown:
On tap for tonight's episode, while this might sound cynical and very "doom and gloom", the advertisements are forecasting a filler program. Only five things have been announced, of which three are promos. This is a three hour show, so WWE will obviously have to include some matches, but when each of those promos can easily eat up 10-15 minutes or more, and when you factor in recaps of those same promos, footage of what they're reacting to, and commercials, that already accounts for well over 1/3rd of the episode, if not longer.
Those three promos will be Elimination Chamber fallout. Cody Rhodes reacting to John Cena's heel turn is the big focal point, and it wouldn't be shocking at all to see Solo Sikoa attack Rhodes, as that has been on rinse and repeat mode for some reason. Jade Cargill will address the attacker storyline and why she went after Naomi on the premium live event. Randy Orton will also talk about how he attacked Kevin Owens at the pay-per-view and help further that story along. Don't be surprised if Owens comes out and they fight.
Thankfully, both the United States Championships are on the line in what should have been the setup for last week, but everything was stalled. Chelsea Green will defend the women's title against Michin in a Philly Street Fight (where she's likely to retain) and Shinsuke Nakamura will face LA Knight, who stands a good chance at winning the title back.
What other matches will WWE announce on the spot? Are we going to get an opening promo that leads to a tag team main event like what happens 90% of the time? Will the tag team division continue to brawl with each other? Let's find out!
Here are your results for WWE SmackDown - March 7, 2025:
- The show opened with Drew McIntyre attacking Damian Priest behind the scenes.
- Promo: Randy Orton talked about how Kevin Owens isn't ever happy, ran down The Prizefighter, and how he's going to take Owens out when he gets a chance.
- Earlier today, Chelsea Green and Piper Niven interrupted Nick Aldis talking to Tiffany Stratton backstage to complain about her street fight. Stratton challenged Niven to a match, despite Green's complaints.
- Tiffany Stratton defeated Piper Niven by pinfall. Charlotte Flair took out Stratton's leg with a surprise attack after the match before locking in the Figure 8 to do even further damage.
- No. 1 Contender's Tag Team Triple Threat Match: Pretty Deadly defeated The Motor City Machine Guns and Los Garza to earn a future title shot.
- Promo: Bianca Belair says instead of being focused on her WrestleMania plans, she's distraught over seeing Jade Cargill and Naomi fighting. She needs some answers, so she calls out Naomi, who comes out in a bedazzled neck brace and tries to dance around the topic, but eventually admits that she did in fact attack Jade Cargill. She tries to say she did it for Bianca Belair, and that Cargill had been riding off Belair's coattails. Belair washes her hands of Naomi and nods to Cargill, who attacks Naomi again for retribution.
- Footage is shown of Cody Rhodes telling Lex Luger (and Diamond Dallas Page) that Luger will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2025.
- Backstage, Charlotte Flair talks about how the women's division has gotten soft. B-Fab interrupted to take offense and say nobody is interested in bowing down to Flair anymore. Flair says everyone eventually bows down to The Queen, and she'll show her next week in the ring.
- Braun Strowman defeated Solo Sikoa by disqualification after interference from Tama Tonga. Strowman fought back, eventually even chokeslamming Jacob Fatu onto the commentary table, but Fatu bounced back fast. They brawled into the crowd, and Strowman eventually chokeslammed Fatu onto a production table. Fatu still managed to get up fairly fast, but by that point, officials came over to stop the fight.
- Zelina Vega tells Chelsea Green backstage that whoever has the Women's United States title, she'll be going after them next.
- Philly Street Fight for the Women's United States Championship: Chelsea Green (c) retained over Michin by pinfall with some help from Alba Fyre.
- Santos Escobar was upset with Los Garza for losing their tag team match. Things are going to have to change for Legado del Fantasma soon. He doesn't expect it, he demands it. Andrade came over to Humberto Carrillo to say that Berto deserves better.
- Promo: Long story short, Cody Rhodes wants to know why John Cena did what he did, and says he's going to retain the title at WrestleMania. If Cena wants some, he can come get some.
- Backstage, The Miz campaigned to Nick Aldis to have a "Melo Don't MizTV" segment for next week to get the real story behind Cody Rhodes. This ultimately led to Aldis booking Randy Orton (who appeared, looking for Kevin Owens) against Carmelo Hayes for next week.
- Drew McIntyre defeated Jimmy Uso by pinfall. Damian Priest then attacked McIntyre after the match to get some revenge from earlier.
- United States Championship Match: LA Knight defeated Shinsuke Nakamura (c) by pinfall to win the title!
