We are devastated to inform you that WWE Superstar Bray Wyatt has died. WWE CCO Triple H broke the news on Twitter earlier today, leaving the world of professional wrestling in shock.
A third-generation wrestler, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Blackjack Mulligan, his father Mike Rotunda, and two of his uncles, Barry and Kendall Windham, Windham Rotunda debuted in WWE as Husky Harris back in 2010. Following a stint with the Nexus faction, he became Bray Wyatt in NXT and made a huge impact there and on WWE’s main roster as leader of The Wyatt Family.
Later holding the WWE and Universal Championships, along with the tag team titles on multiple occasions, Wyatt underwent a major character change when he transformed into The Fiend and started hosting memorable Firefly Funhouse segments which were heavily inspired by Mr. Rogers, albeit with some very sinister undertones.
A highlight from that time was a cinematic WrestleMania match against John Cena during the pandemic which was both thought- provoking and highly entertaining.
After briefly parting ways with WWE, Wyatt was later brought back by Triple H and began teasing a new persona (reportedly alongside real-life brother Bo Dallas as Uncle Howdy). Plans seemingly called for the introduction of a new Wyatt Family - including Alexa Bliss - but Bray was suddenly pulled from a WrestleMania match with Bobby Lashley due to an undisclosed illness.
For the past several months, rumours have swirled about his place in WWE and possible return plans, with the consensus being he was unable to get cleared. It’s currently known whether the aforementioned illness is what led to Bray’s death or if it was some sort of accident.
Wyatt was engaged to former WWE ring announcer JoJo and had four children, with the latest born in 2020.
Bray had a huge impact on WWE and was a true trailblazer. A creative powerhouse and a joy to watch perform in every single gimmick, pro wrestling won’t be the same without him.
Our thoughts go out to his family at this time.
