On tonight's episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown (March 20, 2026), Damian Priest and R-Truth defeated The MFTs to win the WWE Tag Team Championship titles.
How did this go down tonight, what led to this, and what could be on the horizon? Let's break it all down!
How We Got Here & What Went Down:
The tag team of Priest and R-Truth wasn't an official thing until very recently, though they had been interacting together for years in various means, going back to R-Truth's association with The Judgment Day when Priest was still part of that. Once The Archer of Infamy turned babyface, he's been an ally of R-Truth, often going to bat for him and fighting some battles with Aleister Black and such on occasion.
Recently, they were paired up in an official capacity when they defeated Los Garza (Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo) to become the No. 1 contenders for the titles.
Meanwhile, of note, The Wyatt Sicks have continued to feud with the MFTs, who had not only beaten them for the tag team titles in the first place, but also stole their lantern.
As one would expect, Priest and R-Truth were able to snatch the titles away due to interference from The Wyatt Sicks, who brawled with the MFTs to cause a distraction and create some chaos ringside, which Truth was able to capitalize on.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
As much of a fan of Priest and R-Truth as I am, it would be foolish for me to think this is anything but a transitional reign. It kind of reeks of WWE not knowing what to do with this division, or for Priest or R-Truth. I'd imagine The Wyatt Sicks and MFTs will face each other soon enough with some situation where the lantern is retrieved and that will be the end of their feud, while Priest and R-Truth will end up dropping the belts within the next month or so to either a returning Street Profits or maybe The Motor City Machine Guns, if they turn heel.
