Last summer, it looked like Money in the Bank briefcase holder, Seth Rollins, would be sidelined for the better part of a year with another knee injury. In reality, the whole thing was a swerve, and he returned at SummerSlam to cash in on newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.
Netflix has just shared the first trailer for WWE: Unreal Season 2, and it promises to take fans behind the scenes of that shocking moment and the rest of the build to WWE's biggest show of the summer.
"Wild plot twists. Larger-than-life personas. And a whole lot of drama," reads the official logline. "Go behind the scenes with the biggest Superstars and back into the writer's room on the road to SummerSlam for Season 2 of WWE: Unreal."
WWE: Unreal Season 2 is directed by Chris Weaver. Erik Powers serves as showrunner, while executive producers include Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ross Ketover, Keith Cossrow, Ken Rodgers, Jessica Boddy, Lee Fitting, Ben Houser, and Marc Pomarico.
The show is produced by Omaha Productions, NFL Films, Skydance Sports, and WWE, as well as Harley Glantz, John Galiani, Brian Decker, Michael Flynn, Dan Gati, and Jeremy Lundblad.
WWE Superstars featured in WWE: Unreal Season 2 include Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Pat McAfee, Jelly Roll, R-Truth, Iyo Sky, Naomi, Chelsea Green, Penta, and Lyra Valkyria.
Paul Heyman kicks off the trailer by admitting that he's not a big fan of the show, and WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque addressed some of the complaints last year.
"It’s funny that the internet is all complaining that we’re lifting the curtain and showing you stuff," The Game told Pat McAfee. "Meanwhile, they’re doing a podcast that all it does is talk about the behind-the-scenes sht that’s going on. I don’t understand that logic."
"The world knows. An eight-year-old kid picks up his iPhone, googles stuff, and it tells them all the behind-the-scenes stuff right there," Triple H added.
WWE: Unreal Season 2 premieres on Netflix on January 20.
