Liv Morgan has won the WWE Women's World Championship by defeating Stephanie Vaquer at WrestleMania 42, capturing her third world title.

How did this go down tonight, what led to this, and what could be on the horizon? Let's break it all down!

How We Got Here:

The path for the Women's World Championship match at this year's WrestleMania started on September 20, 2025, when Stephanie Vaquer defeated Iyo Sky to claim the then-vacated title at Wrestlepalooza, relinquished by Naomi. For 210 days, WWE didn't give her the most bombastic title reign, for some reason only limiting her to feud with Nikki Bella and Raquel Rodriguez for the entire time.

Liv Morgan was able to return from her injuries in time for the 2026 Royal Rumble, winning that match to earn herself a guaranteed title shot on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Despite having a natural extension of the Rodriguez and Vaquer feud by proxy of Morgan and Rodriguez both being in The Judgment Day, WWE opted to spend several weeks pretending as if there was any chance at all that Morgan would challenge Jade Cargill for the WWE Women's Championship instead, putting in barely any effort in teasing that and mostly just stalling for time while Morgan interacted almost solely with Vaquer.

Inevitably, Morgan made the decision to officially challenge Vaquer after several weeks of confrontations, leading to essentially the same trash talking repeating for the next month. By and large, the whole feud has been Morgan insulting Vaquer's mother, Vaquer taking shots at Dirty Dominik Mysterio, and some scrappy brawls, but not a particularly enthralling storyline.

Match Details:

As you would expect, Vaquer was outnumbered with members of The Judgment Day interfering to help Morgan get the win. Both Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez, as well as Dirty Dominik Mysterio, were all here to help and celebrate with Morgan. As Vaquer was busy dealing with Rodriguez on the outside, Morgan capitalized, throwing her into the steel steps and following it up with an Oblivion for the win.

Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:

This felt like a foregone conclusion. Vaquer's held the title long enough to be able to drop it now, and since WWE did such a poor job properly utilizing her, it's hard to argue this isn't the right call to make. Clearly, they found it difficult to write anything for Vaquer—whether due to lack of motivation, an ill-perceived language barrier problem (like what continues to plague Giulia on SmackDown), or some other reasons—and coasted on auto-pilot with her for her whole run. In comparison, Morgan is someone they obviously enjoy writing for more, so while Vaquer won't get the credit she deserves for being as talented as she is, moving on and giving the belt to Morgan (who is also talented and very popular, mind you) feels like an upgrade. At least, that's the hope. If they still can't do anything but have her feud with 3 people within a year, that will prove the Monday Night Raw writers are sleeping on the job. I anticipate a run that leads at least until SummerSlam, and it's hard to tell who could be the next in line considering the company is more than overdue for a WWE Draft to shake up the rosters. Hopefully, Vaquer doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
