Xavier Woods is not leaving WWE anytime soon.
Fightful Select has confirmed that one of the key members of The New Day won’t be leaving anytime soon as Xavier Woods has signed a multi-year deal with the company. Originally, Woods' contract was supposed to end in September and the RAW star signed just before the expiration date. Woods signed over a month ago, with the news just getting out.
The 39-year-old has been with WWE since 2010. He first came into developmental follwing his TNA run and started making televised appearances for NXT in 2012. While most people may think that Woods immediately made his debut with the New Day, he actually started on the main roster with R-Truth as his tag team partner. That pairing didn’t last long as the duo was quietly disbanded in 2014.
Xavier Woods made his debut alongside Kofi Kingston and Big E in July 2014. Since then, the New Day has gone on to be one of WWE’s most popular factions and Woods has won the WWE Tag Team titles 12 times throughout his decade plus career. Woods is also a 2021 King of the Ring winner.
Last year, there was a big shift in Xavier and Kofi’s career as the duo got rid of some dead weight that’s been holding them back - Big E. Together, Kofi and Xavier would win the WWE Tag Team titles at WrestleMania 41, beating The War Raiders. Sadly, the duo didn’t keep the belts for long as they only held them for 72 days.
Woods and Kofi are now doing a griefing gimmick for the tag team titles. What's interesting about this is that since the duo lost the belts to Judgment Day, the WWE Tag Team titles haven’t been defended since July 28th. But Finn and JD have surpassed the number of days that Kofi and Xavier have held those belts.
It’s not a surprise that Xavier Woods re-signed with WWE as he seems like a lifer. Though him and Kofi aren’t in the main event, they do have a nice spot on the mid card and were featured in solid programs recently despite dropping the tag belts. It’s unknown when Kofi’s contract expires though him and Big E also signed multi-year deals back in 2019 as well, so it should be any day that we hear about Kofi or Big E either re-signing or being released.
