Over the past few months on RAW, tensions between The New Day's Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston have risen. The former appears to be on the cusp of a full-blown heel turn, bringing a potential end to the duo's long-running, successful partnership.
An upcoming edition of RAW looks set to celebrate The New Day's 10-year anniversary and, in an interview with TVInsider, Woods put his recent disagreements with Kingston down to an evolution of their brotherhood.
"Sometimes brothers fight. Family fights. It's just crazy that it has taken this long to start having a disagreement," he explained. "We had so much time with no real tension. It has been very interesting."
"Obviously, when you see it on TV, you think everything is imploding. That's what you're used to seeing in wrestling. We’re mature adults living in 2024. If I can't text him or call him and have a genuine conversation about a disagreement, then how strong is our friendship in the first place?"
"It has always been in wrestling where someone gets jealous or someone accidentally hits someone and we're fighting," Woods continued. "The next thing you know I'm making someone bleed in the streets. If that happened, were we really genuine friends? What you're seeing now is just a maturation of our brotherhood."
As for that upcoming celebration of The New Day's historic 10-year run, he said, "We did film a bunch of stuff going through our historical things the past 10 years. It’s going to be a party. It’s going to be a huge party on RAW because that’s what we have done at WWE. Lots of people have forgotten wrestling is supposed to be fun. That’s why we came into the picture to remind everyone."
"Yes, you can be so angry or sad and feel these emotions from the show. At the same time, don’t forget the most important one: You’re supposed to be having fun. That’s what the celebration will be," Woods teased. "It’s going to be a good time and a reminder that wrestling is supposed to be fun."
The hope among fans is that, even if he can't compete, Big E will make his return and get Woods and Kingston back on the same page. The former WWE Champion is dealing with a career-ending neck injury but should surely be present for what sounds like a very special episode of RAW.
As always, stay tuned for updates as we have them.
