Cody faced off against Shawn Spears in the first quarter finals match of the TNT Tournament this week on AEW Dynamite, and despite an impressive showing from "The Chairman," The American Nightmare walked away with the victory.

Spears looked great all throughout the match, and even put Cody through a table that had been set-up outside the ring with his Death Valley Driver. That wasn't enough to keep Rhodes down, though, and he came back with two consecutive Cross-Rhodes... which Shawn actually managed to kick out of! However, Cody quickly transitioned into a Figure-4, and although Spears didn't tap-out, the ref counted his shoulders to the mat.

Cody now advances to the semifinals and will take on the winner of next week's match between Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara. At this point it seems inevitable that he will be facing Lance Archer in the final, but you never know - AEW is fond of throwing the occasional curve-ball our way.

You can check out another terrific promo from Jake Roberts that opened the episode below.
